Output in Adobe CS 3

This information about output in Adobe CS3. You also can read more about Adobe Indesign CS3 plugin here.

Transparency Flattener Presets dialog box

To access the Transparency Flattener Presets dialog box, choose Edit > Transparency Flattener Presets. This dialog box provides access to defined Flattener presets (Figure 58). The built-in presets are not editable, but you can use them as the basis for customizing and modifying presets (select a preset and click New or Edit). Use the Flattener Presets dialog box to import Flattener presets created by customers or export your own presets for distribution. The presets you create here will be available when you print or save a file to a format that needs to be flattened.

To choose a Flattener preset for exporting a PDF file:

1. Choose File > Export.
2. For Save as Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS), choose Adobe PDF. Type a filename, choose a location for the file, and click Save to go to the Export Adobe PDF dialog box.

When the Export Adobe PDF dialog box appears, it displays the General panel. (You can select the General panel in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box in the list on the left).
3. In the Options section, set the Compatibility to Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3).
4. On the left side of the PDF Export dialog box, click Advanced.
5. In the Transparency Flattener section of the Advanced panel, choose the Flattener preset you want to use (Figure 59).

If this section is grayed out, make sure that you have chosen the Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) setting in the General panel. The PDF 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7 formats support live transparency, so no flattening occurs when exporting to these formats.

To choose a Flattener preset for exporting an EPS file:

1. Choose File > Export.
2. For Save as Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS), choose EPS. Type a filename, choose a location for the file, and click Save to go to the Export EPS dialog box.

The Export EPS dialog box appears and displays the General panel (you can select the General panel at the top of the Export EPS dialog box).
3. Click the Advanced tab at the top of dialog box to go to the Advanced Settings panel.
4. In the Transparency Flattener section, choose the Flattener Preset you want to use (Figure 60).
Overriding spread flattening

You may want to flatten one or more spreads in a document using a different style than for the rest of the document. Customizing a flattener setting for a specific spread lets you reduce flattening time and memory requirements without affecting the quality of other spreads. For example, if a placed Illustrator graphic contains a very complex piece of transparent artwork, you may want to flatten it with a different Raster/Vector Balance setting than the remainder of the pages in the document.

To apply a custom flattener setting and override the spread flattening, you use the Pages panel. Any flattening overrides you apply can be turned off temporarily when you print or export a document by selecting the Ignore Spread Overrides option on the Advanced panel of the Print and Export dialog boxes.

To override spread flattening:

1. Select the spread for which you want to customize flattening.
2. From the Pages panel menu (Figure 61), choose Spread Flattening, and then choose an option:
* Default to use the document flattening preset for this spread.
* None (Ignore Transparency) to ignore transparency for the spread.
* Custom to open the Custom Spread Flattener Settings dialog box to specify the Flattener settings you want used for the spread.
